The Faculty of Computing at the University of Ibadan was approved by the Senate of the University of Ibadan at its meeting of March 24 2025. The Department of Computer Science however was established at the University of Ibadan in 1974. The department was conceived as a means of training manpower to meet the demand for increasing computerisation. The department started postgraduate studies leading to the award of academic M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Computer Science and a Master in Computer Systems (which later was reviewed and renamed as Master in Business Computing) in 2001. Since then, the department has proved itself to be a Centre of Excellence in the training of computing professionals by the numerous awards that its students had won over the years in both national and international competitions, and the excellent feedback from employers of its graduates in both academia and industry. The departments in the Faculty of Computing and the programmes offered at undergraduate level are:
- Department of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (B.Sc. Computer Science)
- Department of Software Engineering (B.Sc. Software Engineering)
- Department of Data Science (B.Sc. Data Science)
- Department of Information and Communications Technology (B.Sc. Cybersecurity and B.Sc. Information and Communications Technology)
At the postgraduate level the Faculty of Computing has postgraduate programmes in M.Sc. M.Phil. and Ph.D. Computer Science, Master in Business Computing, and will run corresponding M.Sc. programmes in Applied Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering and, Computer Networking and Cybersecurity.
